Mumbai, September 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday criticised the father of late Disha Salian following reports that he planned to visit Matoshree to serve a defamation notice on party leader Aaditya Thackeray over allegations surrounding his daughter’s death.

Raut described the reported move as political “drama” and alleged that rivals were attempting to malign the Thackeray family.

Speaking to reporters, Raut said the controversy should end and urged all those involved to stop what he described as political theatrics.

“This drama must stop,” Raut said.

Referring to the investigation into Salian’s death, he said the matter had been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and claimed that no one had been named as an accused at this stage. He said the CBI had registered a case against unknown persons.

Raut also alleged that a coordinated financial and political campaign was being carried out to damage the reputation of the Thackeray family. He claimed that some people involved in the campaign were receiving financial support through what he called a “Nepali connection”.

The allegations have not been independently established.

Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray had rejected allegations linking him or his son Aaditya Thackeray to the June 2020 death of Salian, describing the repeated claims as a politically motivated campaign of character assassination.

Uddhav said neither he nor Aaditya had any connection with Salian and maintained that he had never met or known her. He warned that continued attempts to link his family to the case would prompt legal action.

Aaditya Thackeray had also issued a detailed statement on X, reiterating that he had never met or known Salian. He described the allegations as an evidence-free campaign driven by political motives and personal enmity.

The statements followed developments concerning the investigation into Salian’s death. The Bombay High Court had ordered a probe into the circumstances surrounding the case, following which the CBI registered a preliminary FIR.

Meanwhile, Raut also criticised Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for delivering a recent address in Gujarati in Gujarat on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

Raut said there was nothing wrong with speaking Gujarati but alleged that Shinde’s decision was aimed at pleasing political leadership in Gujarat. He also invoked the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Balasaheb Thackeray while arguing for the importance of Marathi leadership.

Raut cited former Maharashtra leaders Vasantdada Patil, Sharad Pawar, Balasaheb Thackeray and Yashwantrao Chavan as examples of leaders who, according to him, proudly used Marathi while engaging with the Centre.
