Actor and model Muzammil Ibrahim has recalled his childhood admiration for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, revealing that his fandom once led him to keep a three-day fast for the actor.
Ibrahim said many of his childhood memories were linked to trying to imitate Salman Khan, from his hairstyle and appearance to his fitness.
“I was a mad Salman Khan fan growing up. A lot of my childhood memories are somehow connected to trying to look and behave like Salman Khan,” he recalled.
He said he and his friends would ask their barber to recreate Salman’s distinctive V-shaped hairline with a razor. The results, he admitted, were far from successful.
The actor also recalled tying bandanas tightly around his forehead at night in an attempt to achieve a similar look, sometimes waking up feeling dizzy.
Ibrahim said Salman also inspired him to start working out after he watched the actor’s physique in the song O Jaane Jaana.
“I started going to the gym because of Salman Khan, 100 per cent,” he said.
Recalling the song, Ibrahim said he had been fascinated by Salman’s back muscles and, as a child, jokingly told his mother that the actor had “discovered a new muscle”.
For Ibrahim and his friends, Salman was more than a film star. He described the actor as an idol and an embodiment of male beauty during their childhood.
His admiration became particularly emotional when Salman was facing difficult legal cases. Ibrahim said he and his friends saw reports about the actor and felt they could do little except pray for him.
He and his best friend eventually decided to keep a three-day fast for Salman.
“It sounds extreme now, but that’s how deeply we believed in him as kids. We wanted to do something, anything, that might somehow help him,” he recalled.
Years later, when Ibrahim finally met Salman at a club, he told him about the fast. Salman responded with humour, saying, “Dua karo ke phir se na rakhna pade.”
Ibrahim said the response left him impressed by Salman’s nonchalant personality and his approach to life.
“He doesn’t seem to take life too seriously, and he has always seemed determined to live it on his own terms and enjoy it to the fullest,” he said.
