Rajasthan Police have announced a symbolic reward of 25 paise for information leading to the arrest of Naresh Meena, chief of the Bhagat Singh Sena, who is wanted in a case involving the alleged assault of Forest Department personnel and damage to government property at the Nahargarh Forest Range office.
Police officials said the nominal amount was intended as a message to Meena, suggesting that they did not consider him the formidable criminal he allegedly portrayed himself to be. They described the move as a symbolic gesture rather than a genuine financial incentive. No formal written order announcing the reward has been issued.
Meanwhile, police have intensified their search, carrying out raids at nearly a dozen locations where Meena is suspected to be hiding. Surveillance has also been stepped up around his village and along key routes. The operation is being led by Chhabra Station House Officer Rajesh Khatana.
A video dated November 5 has added an unusual dimension to the search. It reportedly shows Meena boating on the Parwan River while campaigning for candidates he is supporting in the ongoing Panchayat elections. In the footage, he is seen appealing to supporters and local residents to ensure the victory of those candidates.
His apparent public presence has drawn attention even as police teams continue efforts to trace him.
The case relates to an incident on November 1, when Meena allegedly reached the Nahargarh Forest Range office with hundreds of supporters. According to a complaint by Forest Department personnel, the group assaulted Forest Guard Pradeep Singh and other employees, damaged official documents and forcibly took away a generator and other equipment seized by the department.
A case was registered against Meena and his associates over allegations of assaulting government employees, obstructing official work and damaging government property. Several supporters have already been arrested.
Police have continued raids and other efforts to apprehend Meena, who remains at large. The 25-paise tactic is not unprecedented in Rajasthan, with Bharatpur Police having used a similar symbolic reward for information about a wanted criminal.
