Hari Chand Jaat, alias Harry Boxer, an alleged key associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and wanted in several criminal cases across India, has reportedly been taken into custody by authorities in the United States.
Reports emerging on Saturday said Boxer, who is suspected of coordinating activities of the Bishnoi gang from abroad, was in the custody of American authorities.
However, his detention had also been reported in February 2026, when US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was said to have detained him in California. It was not immediately clear whether the latest reports referred to a fresh arrest, a change in his custody status or the earlier detention.
No fresh official confirmation establishing the precise date, location or circumstances of his reported detention was available at the time of filing this report.
Boxer has been linked by Indian investigating agencies to several cases involving extortion threats, shootings and other serious criminal offences in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.
Linked to Threats Against Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh
Harry Boxer’s name surfaced prominently in investigations involving threats to Bollywood personalities, including filmmaker Rohit Shetty and actor Ranveer Singh.
Following a firing incident outside Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai residence in February 2026, Boxer allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack through communications attributed to the Bishnoi gang.
Investigators also examined threatening audio messages allegedly sent to Shetty and Ranveer Singh.
In one case, a caller identifying himself as Harry Boxer allegedly demanded ₹20 crore from Ranveer Singh. The matter led to a police complaint and investigation into the origin and authenticity of the threatening communications.
The alleged threats formed part of a wider pattern of intimidation targeting celebrities, businessmen and other financially prominent individuals.
However, claims of responsibility made through social media or audio recordings do not, by themselves, establish the identity of those who carried out the attacks.
Linked to Kapil Sharma Café Attacks, Threats Against Salman Khan’s Associates
Harry Boxer’s name had also surfaced in connection with shootings targeting comedian Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Café in Surrey, Canada, in 2025.
An intelligence assessment attributed to the Canada Border Services Agency reportedly linked Boxer to two attacks on the café, with investigators examining whether the incidents were connected to Salman Khan’s appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show.
Following one of the shootings in August 2025, an audio recording attributed to Boxer emerged in which he allegedly threatened actors, directors and producers associated with Salman Khan.
The threats indicated that individuals working with the Bollywood superstar could also become targets of the criminal network.
Boxer subsequently figured in investigations involving alleged threats to filmmaker Rohit Shetty and actor Ranveer Singh in February 2026.
However, the authenticity of several audio recordings attributed to Boxer remained under investigation, and claims of responsibility did not independently establish his direct involvement in the attacks.
Who Is Harry Boxer?
Harry Boxer, whose real name is Hari Chand Jaat, belongs to Narayanpur in Rajasthan’s Alwar district.
He reportedly comes from a farming family and studied at a college in Bansur before preparing for recruitment examinations for the police, armed forces and other government services.
He was also associated with boxing and reportedly worked as a boxing coach in Jaipur, earning the nickname Boxer.
According to investigators, he subsequently became involved in criminal activities and developed links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
He has reportedly been absconding since 2022 and is suspected of having travelled abroad through Nepal in 2024 before establishing himself in the United States.
Criminal Cases in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Delhi
Indian police agencies have linked Boxer to numerous criminal investigations involving extortion, assault, attempted murder and firing incidents.
Investigators have reported more than two dozen criminal cases against him across Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, besides several cases in Delhi and Maharashtra.
His name has also figured in investigations involving alleged threats to businessmen and gym owners, including demands for substantial sums of money.
In one Delhi case, investigators linked persons allegedly associated with Boxer to an extortion demand of ₹5 crore, followed by firing incidents targeting premises connected with a businessman.
Police have arrested several suspected associates in cases involving threats and shootings attributed to the network.
The allegations against Boxer remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
Alleged Role in International Gang Network
Investigating agencies regard Boxer as one of the suspected overseas operators associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi criminal network.
His reported activities have drawn attention not only in India but also in Canada, where members and associates of the gang have been accused of extortion and violent attacks.
In August 2025, Delhi Police arrested two suspected gang members who were allegedly working for Boxer. Police linked them to the network that had claimed responsibility for firing outside comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, Canada.
A Canadian intelligence assessment prepared in December 2025 also identified Boxer among prominent figures associated with the Bishnoi organisation and referred to allegations of extortion in Canada.
The gang is suspected of using overseas associates and locally recruited operatives to coordinate threats, collect extortion payments and organise attacks across international borders.
US Agencies Intensify Action Against Bishnoi Network
The reported custody of Boxer comes against the backdrop of a wider investigation by American and Canadian authorities into organised crime networks originating in India.
On July 7, 2026, the United States Department of Justice announced a coordinated international crackdown, code-named Operation Hard Ball, involving law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada and Europe.
The operation resulted in 24 arrests involving three alleged transnational criminal organisations. A total of 37 defendants were charged in three indictments.
The allegations included racketeering, extortion, targeted killings, shootings and international drug trafficking.
Lawrence Bishnoi, who remains imprisoned in India, was among those charged by US federal prosecutors in connection with the alleged activities of his criminal enterprise.
American investigators alleged that the organisation used overseas associates and encrypted communications to coordinate criminal operations across national borders.
The July operation was part of a broader international effort to disrupt organised crime networks affecting communities in India and overseas.
However, the available official records do not establish that Harry Boxer’s latest reported detention formed part of that particular operation.
Questions Remain Over Extradition
Boxer is wanted in connection with several investigations in India, and his custody in the United States could have implications for efforts to bring him before Indian courts.
Following reports of his detention in February, Indian police sources had indicated that agencies were coordinating to secure his return to India.
However, no fresh official information was available on whether extradition proceedings had formally begun, whether he faced any separate immigration or criminal proceedings in the United States, or when he might be returned to India.
Further clarification from American and Indian law enforcement authorities is awaited.
