Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has revisited a charming childhood memory, revealing that his first-ever stage performance was as a baby chick during his kindergarten days in Allahabad.
The veteran actor shared the anecdote on the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, recalling how his introduction to acting came at a very young age while studying at a convent school.
Bachchan said he was admitted to a convent school in Allahabad during kindergarten, where students were encouraged to participate in stage activities.
“First of all, I was admitted to a convent school in Allahabad, in kindergarten. From there, we were put on stage. We have been performing ever since,” he recalled.
Describing his debut role, the actor said he was cast as a little chicken and instructed to flap his arms to imitate a bird’s wings.
“My first role was that of a baby chick. You know, a little chicken that flaps its wings. We were told to flap our arms like that,” he said.
Bachchan also spoke about his school years after moving from St Mary’s Convent to a boys’ school, where he continued taking part in plays. His interest in theatre developed further when he joined Kirori Mal College at Delhi University.
He remembered Frank Thakur Das, a teacher at the college who was actively involved in theatre and guided students in acting and drama. Bachchan described the experience as a memorable part of his formative years.
The actor also shared news of a recent initiative by Kirori Mal College alumni to restore the institution’s old stage, which had fallen into disrepair.
He said former students collectively contributed towards rebuilding it, allowing the college to have a renewed performance space.
The recollection offered a glimpse into the early experiences that helped shape Bachchan’s long association with performance and Indian cinema.
