Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju visited the historic Al Rahmah Mosque in Jeddah, popularly known as the Floating Mosque, during his visit to Saudi Arabia for the 6th Haj Conference and Exhibition 2027.
Located along the Red Sea coastline, the mosque is recognised for its distinctive architecture and religious significance.
Sharing photographs from the visit on Saturday, Rijiju described the mosque as a remarkable landmark reflecting Saudi Arabia’s Islamic heritage and architectural beauty.
The minister arrived in Jeddah on Friday to attend the Haj conference, participate in the signing of the bilateral Haj agreement between India and Saudi Arabia, and review arrangements for Indian pilgrims undertaking the pilgrimage next year.
He was received at the airport by Fahad Suri, Consul General of India in Jeddah. Rijiju said his engagements would focus on ensuring a safe, smooth and comfortable Haj journey for Indian pilgrims in 2027.
Preparations for the next Haj season have already begun. On October 4, India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Vipul, met the Kingdom’s Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Abdulfattah bin Suleiman Al-Mashat, along with senior officials, to review arrangements and discuss coordination between the Indian Haj Mission and the Saudi ministry.
The Indian delegation also included Consul General Fahad Suri and Consul (Haj) Sadaf Choudhary.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the Haj Terminal at Jeddah Airport and the Haramain High Speed Railway Station to assess facilities, infrastructure and operational arrangements for pilgrims.
The Consulate General of India in Jeddah said these facilities are particularly important for the movement of more than 100,000 Indian pilgrims travelling through the Haj Committee of India route.
The upcoming bilateral agreement and continued coordination between the two countries are expected to play an important role in finalising arrangements for Haj 2027.
