Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, accompanied by his wife and children, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday to extend festive greetings on the occasion of Diwali.
The Prime Minister shared pictures of the interaction on social media platform X.
In his post, Modi wrote, “Deepwali ke mahual mei Ram and Saryu ka aagman hua hai. Isse Diwali ka vatavaran aur bhi paawan aur divya ho gaya hai.”
Suryakumar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his warm hospitality and conveyed his Diwali wishes.
Earlier this year, the cricketer had credited Modi’s emphasis on sports with bringing significant changes to India’s sporting ecosystem, saying the transformation was “massive and visible on the ground”.
“Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has spoken very loudly and clearly about making India a sporting powerhouse, and if you see the change, it is clearly massive and visible on the ground,” Suryakumar had told IANS.
Recalling his early cricketing days, the 35-year-old said opportunities and infrastructure were limited when he began his journey.
“When I started playing cricket, there was very little infrastructure, so the opportunities were very limited,” he said.
Last month, Suryakumar began his stint as MLB India’s Brand Ambassador, taking part in the inaugural MLBx Mumbai 3-on-3 baseball event organised by Major League Baseball in Mumbai.
