Bihar Police seized more than 1,000 litres of liquor in separate operations in Purnea and Jamui districts on Thursday as part of an intensified crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling in the state.
In Purnea, Banmankhi police conducted a raid in Nipaniya village following information about the delivery of a large liquor consignment. The operation was carried out by a special team led by Banmankhi SDPO Shailesh Pritam and SHO Sanjay Kumar on the directions of Purnea SP.
Police seized 924 litres of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), valued at around Rs 9 lakh, and arrested Dinesh Yadav, a resident of Nipaniya village. Following interrogation, he was sent to judicial custody.
Investigators are now working to establish the source of the liquor and identify other people allegedly involved in the supply network.
In a separate operation in Jamui, police intercepted a Swift car near Chiraiya Bridge under Chandramandi police station during a vehicle-checking exercise based on a tip-off.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of around 144 litres of foreign liquor and beer, including approximately 185 liquor bottles and 29 beer bottles. Police arrested two persons identified as Ajit Kumar, a resident of the Jamui Town police station area, and Vikas Kumar, an assistant driver from Fatehpur village in neighbouring Lakhisarai district.
According to preliminary questioning, the consignment had allegedly been brought from Barakar in West Bengal and was intended for distribution in Jamui town and nearby areas.
Police have registered an FIR against the two accused under relevant provisions and seized the vehicle. Investigators are examining whether the accused are linked to a wider liquor-smuggling network operating across Jamui and Lakhisarai.
Further efforts are underway to identify the alleged supplier, intended recipients and other locations where the liquor was allegedly to be distributed.
