More than 200 students from Indian schools in Muscat visited Indian Naval Ship (INS) Imphal at Sultan Qaboos Port as part of celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day in Oman.
The Indian Embassy in Oman said the students got a first-hand glimpse of life aboard the indigenously built Indian naval warship and learned about India’s maritime capabilities and the Navy’s role in promoting a secure, stable and prosperous Indian Ocean Region.
The embassy said the visit was organised as part of the ongoing Independence Day celebrations in Oman and provided students an opportunity to understand the country’s naval strength and maritime traditions.
INS Imphal, a Visakhapatnam-class guided missile destroyer, was in Muscat as part of the Indian Navy’s overseas maritime presence during the Independence Day celebrations.
The Indian Navy said its ships marked the 80th Independence Day at several overseas ports, including Muscat, Djibouti and Ponta Delgada, carrying the Tricolour and highlighting India’s maritime presence and longstanding international partnerships.
During the port call in Muscat, the Tricolour was hoisted aboard INS Imphal, reaffirming the close ties and maritime cooperation between India and Oman.
India’s Ambassador to Oman, Prashant Pise, also visited the warship and congratulated its crew on the occasion. The ship’s personnel subsequently participated in the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony organised at the Indian Embassy.
The visit by the students highlighted the people-to-people dimension of India-Oman relations while giving the younger generation an opportunity to engage directly with India’s naval personnel and maritime heritage.
