Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Condemns Police Action on NEET Protesters, Demands Fair and Credible Examination System

Chandigarh, July 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (Regd.) has expressed solidarity with students protesting over the NEET examination issue and strongly condemned the police action against demonstrators marching from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament, calling for a fair, transparent and credible examination system in the country.

In a joint statement issued by Sabha President Darshan Buttar, General Secretary Sushil Dusanjh, Senior Vice-President Makkhan Singh Kuhar and Office Secretary Deep Devinder Singh, the literary organisation criticised the reported use of lathi-charge, tear gas shells and force against peacefully protesting students.

The Sabha said the use of force against students exercising their democratic right to raise their concerns was contrary to democratic values and traditions. It stressed that the credibility of the country’s examination system must be protected at all costs, adding that competitive examinations affecting the future of millions of young people should never be undermined by irregularities, negligence or loss of public confidence.

The organisation also expressed concern over what it described as growing unease and frustration among young people regarding the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s education policies and the conduct of competitive examinations such as NEET.

According to the Sabha, repeated controversies over the fairness and transparency of competitive examinations have raised questions not only about individual examinations but also about the integrity of the country’s overall education system.

The office-bearers alleged that the current education policies have increasingly prioritised centralisation and an examination-centric approach instead of addressing students’ genuine needs, ensuring equal opportunities and strengthening public education.

They further stated that repeated controversies surrounding NEET and other national-level competitive examinations have deepened concerns that the government has failed to restore students’ confidence in the examination process. The Sabha maintained that any negligence or lack of accountability in matters affecting the future of millions of students was unacceptable.

The Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha demanded that all national competitive examinations, including NEET, be made fully transparent, impartial and accountable through effective institutional reforms. It also urged the government to formulate education policies that uphold social justice, equal opportunities and the interests of students from every section of society.

Describing itself as a literary and intellectual organisation committed to democratic values, the Sabha said protecting the aspirations of young people, safeguarding the right to education and ensuring a just and credible examination system were collective responsibilities of society. It reiterated its complete solidarity with the democratic movement of NEET aspirants and called upon the government to take immediate and concrete measures to make the country’s education system more transparent, reliable and student-centric.
