Jharkhand minister Sudivya Kumar died at Mercy Hospital in Giridih after his health deteriorated suddenly late Saturday night, triggering grief among political leaders, party workers and residents across the city.
Kumar was brought to the hospital near the city’s bus stand after he complained of chest pain at his residence in Harsingraiyadih during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Doctors examined him and immediately began treatment, but he could not be saved.
According to information available, Kumar had been away from Giridih for several days and had returned to the district two days before his death.
Kumar was serving as Jharkhand’s Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Urban Development and Housing, Tourism, Art and Culture, and Sports and Youth Affairs.
News of his sudden death prompted a large gathering at Mercy Hospital, with party leaders, workers and members of the public reaching the facility to pay their respects.
Senior officials, including the district magistrate, superintendent of police and Dhanbad SSP, also reached the hospital following the news of the minister’s death.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) expressed deep shock and sorrow over Kumar’s death through a post on its official X handle.
“The transience of life…Those who were our companions just yesterday are now only memories with us today. The uncertainty of life has once again left us in profound sorrow and grief,” the party said.
Describing Kumar as a “dedicated comrade” of the JMM and a minister in the Jharkhand government, the party said his death was an “irreplaceable loss” for the organisation, the government and the state.
“His departure is an irreplaceable loss for the party, the government, and Jharkhand. His struggles, service, and contributions will always be remembered,” the JMM said.
The party conveyed its condolences to Kumar’s family and prayed for peace for the departed soul.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo also paid tribute to the minister and expressed condolences to his family.
Kumar’s sudden demise has left Jharkhand’s political circles, JMM workers and residents of Giridih mourning the loss of the minister.
