India produced another dominant performance against Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup, bowling them out for just 55 before completing a seven-wicket victory in 8.4 overs at Dubai on Saturday.
The win was India’s fifth consecutive T20I victory over Pakistan and capped their league-stage campaign on a commanding note.
After opting to bat, Pakistan struggled against India’s disciplined spin attack. N. Sree Charani and Prema Rawat claimed three wickets apiece, while Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma also contributed to a relentless bowling display that exposed Pakistan’s batting frailties.
Pakistan made a cautious start before Shawaal Zulfiqar struck consecutive boundaries. Opener Muneeba Ali, who survived two early dropped chances, was eventually bowled by Shafali for 13.
Charani then triggered Pakistan’s collapse, dismissing Gull Feroza for a duck and trapping Shawaal lbw for 14 in the final powerplay over. She later claimed her third wicket when Ayesha Zafar was caught at mid-on by Harmanpreet Kaur.
Prema bowled Sadaf Shamas and later dismissed Umm-e-Hani before completing a three-wicket haul by catching Nashra Sandhu off her own bowling. Deepti Sharma removed Pakistan captain Fatima Sana for a duck and wrapped up the innings by having Tuba Hassan stumped by Richa Ghosh.
Only Shawaal and Muneeba reached double figures for Pakistan, who slipped from 27 without loss to 55 all out in 18.1 overs.
India’s chase began explosively, with Shafali sending the first ball from Sadia Iqbal over long-off for six. She also became the youngest batter to reach 3,000 women’s T20I runs, achieving the milestone at 22 years and 220 days.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana briefly revived her side’s hopes with three wickets in the powerplay. She dismissed Shafali for 12, Pratika Rawal for four and Smriti Mandhana after the Indian opener had struck a boundary.
With India reduced to 29/3, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma steadied the innings. Deepti broke the pressure with a boundary in the seventh over before Harmanpreet finished the contest with a six over long-on.
Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on 18, while Deepti provided assured support as India reached 57/3 in 8.4 overs.
