Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared glimpses of his warm interaction with passengers during a Delhi Metro ride, including a memorable moment when a schoolboy sitting beside him whispered, “I want to become like you.”
PM Modi travelled by Metro on Saturday while heading to Delhi University to address students at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) as part of the institution’s centenary celebrations. The approximately 20-minute journey began around 7 p.m. and saw the Prime Minister interact informally with schoolchildren and other passengers.
During the ride, Modi shook hands with children and spoke to them about their interests, hobbies and aspirations. In one light-hearted moment, a boy leaned towards the Prime Minister and whispered into his ear before shaking hands with him.
Another student spoke about Teachers’ Day, observed on September 5, and described Modi as an inspiration for the younger generation. The student recalled former President and educationist Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, saying that while he was no longer present to inspire students, the Prime Minister had become an inspiration for them.
Another student also told Modi that he inspired people across the country.
The Prime Minister also interacted with other commuters. He wished an infant passenger an “Advance Happy Birthday”, as the child was nearing his first birthday.
A woman from Varanasi, Modi’s parliamentary constituency, spoke to him about the transformation of Kashi and said residents were happy with the city’s development.
Visuals shared on social media showed Modi using a travel card at a Metro station before entering the platform and boarding a Yellow Line train towards Vishwavidyalaya station.
This was not Modi’s first Metro journey. He travelled by Metro to Delhi University during the university’s centenary celebrations in 2023 and used the service in 2015 to reach the venue for the inauguration of the Faridabad extension line. More recently, in February 2026, he travelled by the Meerut Metro and alighted at Meerut South Station.
The latest journey once again gave commuters an unexpected opportunity to interact directly with the Prime Minister during an otherwise routine city commute.
