Ukraine is ready to observe a temporary ceasefire in strikes against Moscow and other Russian cities involved in the ongoing negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
Zelensky said Ukraine was prepared to refrain from strikes on Moscow through the end of Saturday and during Sunday and Monday, as negotiations involving US representatives continued.
“From now through the end of Saturday, as well as on Sunday and Monday, Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow,” Zelensky said in a post on X following a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
He said Kyiv expected Russia to take a similar step by refraining from strikes on the Ukrainian capital.
According to Interfax-Ukraine, Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to travel to Kyiv on Sunday following their visit to Moscow.
Meanwhile, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Russian President Vladimir Putin held substantive and constructive talks with Witkoff and Kushner in Moscow. He described the discussions as “extremely frank” and said they were conducted in a trusting atmosphere.
The talks, which lasted three hours and 10 minutes, covered the Ukraine conflict as well as broader economic issues and potential large-scale Russian-US projects, Ushakov said.
According to Ushakov, Putin reiterated Russia’s readiness to continue working with the United States towards political and diplomatic solutions to the Ukraine conflict. The Russian side also presented its assessment of developments amid the ongoing military operation, including what it described as advances by Russian forces on the battlefield.
Ushakov said the Russian side expressed confidence in achieving its stated objectives and stressed the need to address what it considers the root causes of the conflict.
He described the talks as timely and beneficial to both sides and said the two countries’ leaders would maintain personal contact, while negotiations through Witkoff and Kushner would continue.
Ushakov added that the US envoys would convey to Ukrainian officials during their planned Kyiv visit observations and assessments received directly from Putin concerning efforts to achieve a durable peace settlement in Ukraine.
