Actress Gul Panag has opened up about the challenges of maintaining fitness in her late 40s, saying her body has been changing the way it responds to training and that recovery now takes longer.
On Wednesday, Gul shared a series of pictures from her fitness session on Instagram. The actress was seen lifting weights and undertaking functional training as part of her workout routine.
Alongside the pictures, she posted a detailed note reflecting on how she has had to rethink several aspects of fitness after more than three decades of training.
“My body has been changing the rules on me lately. Things that worked for years suddenly don’t. Recovery takes longer. The weights occasionally feel heavier than they have any business feeling. Some weeks everything clicks. Other weeks, nothing does. But here’s the thing. I’ve been playing this game since I was 15 — for 30 plus years,” she wrote.
Gul said her fitness journey has included running, yoga, strength training, endurance work and plyometrics, while also learning to adapt to the unexpected challenges that life brings.
“Running. Yoga. Strength. Endurance. Plyometrics. Getting hit in the face by life occasionally. Getting back up. Figuring out what works, until it doesn’t, and then figuring it out all over again,” she wrote.
Addressing the changes that come with midlife, the actress said she remains committed to continuing her fitness journey regardless of the obstacles.
“So, dear midlife body, jehdiyaan tu gamean saadde naal kheddda. No matter what you throw at me, I’m going to keep showing up. Because if 30-plus years of training have taught me anything, it’s that there really are no shortcuts,” she added.
Gul also emphasised consistency over quick fixes or temporary bursts of motivation, saying fitness requires commitment even on difficult days.
“Not the perfect workout. Not the latest hack. Not the week when motivation magically appears. Consistency. Consistency. Consistency. That’s it,” she wrote.
She said the approach involves continuing to train when feeling strong as well as when tired, while adjusting routines according to the body’s changing needs.
“You adjust. You recover. You renegotiate. And then you show up again,” Gul wrote.
The actress concluded by acknowledging that her body may not respond as it did in her 20s, but said she was not trying to return to that stage of life.
“My body may not respond the way it did at 25. Fine. I’m not trying to be 25. I’m just going to keep at it until this body remembers who it’s dealing with,” she added.
