Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday visited the residence of Punjab Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat in J.P. Nagar, Jalandhar, to condole the demise of his father, Bhagat Chunni Lal, a former Punjab minister.
Sisodia, accompanied by Advisor, Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, Deepak Bali, met the bereaved family and paid his respects to the departed soul. He conveyed his sympathies to the family and urged its members to maintain courage and patience during the difficult period.
Sisodia prayed for the spiritual peace of Bhagat Chunni Lal and sought strength from the Almighty for the bereaved family to bear the loss.
Recalling the late leader’s public life, Sisodia said Bhagat Chunni Lal had made significant contributions to the social and political spheres and had worked for the welfare of the common people over the course of his long public life. He said his demise was a loss for the Bhagat family as well as the wider social and political spheres, adding that his public service and contribution would be remembered.
Mohinder Bhagat thanked Sisodia for visiting the family and sharing its grief. He said Sisodia’s presence during the hour of mourning had provided strength to the family.
Mohinder Bhagat said his father’s affection, guidance and blessings had been a constant source of strength in his life. He said the family had lost its guide and strong support, while the values, education and commitment to public service imparted by his father would continue to guide him.
He added that although the void left by the loss of a father could never be filled, Bhagat Chunni Lal’s ideals and legacy of public service would remain a source of inspiration for the family.
Mohinder Bhagat’s brother Ashwani Bhagat, son Atul Bhagat, nephew Chandan Bhagat and other family members were present.
Also present were Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Vice-Chairman Keemti Bhagat, District Aam Aadmi Party president Amritpal, MLA Balkar Singh, Halqa North in-charge and Mayor Vineet Dhir, Halqa Central in-charge Nitin Kohli, Harcharan Singh Sandhu, Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, AAP Rural Wing president Pradeep Duggal, Bharat Bhushan Jairath, Onkar Tikka, Ayub Duggal, Saurabh Seth and Kuldeep Bhagat Gagan, besides councillors, chairmen and other dignitaries from Jalandhar West.
The leaders and dignitaries paid tributes to Bhagat Chunni Lal and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family. The family thanked Sisodia, the leaders, party workers and well-wishers for standing by them and expressing solidarity during the period of mourning.
