The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has assigned Superintendent of Police Seema Pahuja to probe the death of celebrity manager Disha Salian after registering an FIR into the alleged criminal conspiracy and alleged suppression or destruction of evidence in the case.
Pahuja, currently posted with the Special Crime Unit at CBI Headquarters in Delhi, will be assisted by a team of officers, including investigating officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar.
A gold medal recipient for Best Investigating Officer in 2021, Pahuja has handled several complex and sensitive criminal investigations involving forensic evidence.
She was part of the CBI team that investigated the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate woman trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024. She was also among the 15 officers in the CBI team constituted to investigate the Hathras case in Uttar Pradesh.
Pahuja has additionally been associated with the CBI investigations into the Unnao rape case and Himachal Pradesh’s Gudiya case. She also played a role in the investigation into the rape and murder of a minor girl in Shimla.
Disha Salian, who worked as a celebrity manager, died in Mumbai in June 2020 in circumstances that prompted questions and demands for a detailed investigation. Her death occurred shortly before the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, leading to speculation over whether the two cases were connected.
On Tuesday, Disha’s father Satish Salian welcomed the CBI probe and said he was “fully confident” in the agency’s investigation.
“I am at peace that the case has been registered, though I will be happy only when the accused are punished,” he told IANS.
Satish Salian also called for strict punishment for those he has accused in connection with his daughter’s death, naming Aaditya Thackeray, Sooraj Pancholi, Dino Morea, their bodyguards and others. These are allegations made by him and are subject to investigation.
The CBI’s newly registered case is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian’s death, including the allegations of conspiracy and suppression or destruction of evidence.
