Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag has been selected for the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, drawing congratulatory messages from Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra and Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka.
The leaders described the honour as a moment of pride for Karnataka and recognition of Anant Nag’s decades-long contribution to Kannada and Indian cinema.
Shivakumar congratulated the veteran actor, describing him as an outstanding artiste and a multi-faceted talent whose distinguished career had made a significant contribution to the film industry.
The Chief Minister said the Government of India had recognised Anant Nag’s decades-long artistic journey and distinctive contribution to cinema through the prestigious award.
“Heartfelt congratulations to Anant Nag. His artistic journey will always remain an inspiration for generations to come,” Shivakumar said.
Kumaraswamy, in a statement issued from New Delhi, called Anant Nag “the pride of Karnataka” and said the honour was a matter of pride for Kannadigas.
He described Anant Nag as one of the finest actors produced by Kannada cinema, known for his natural acting and expressive performances, and called him a rare talent in Indian cinema.
“It is a matter of pride for Kannadigas that such an accomplished artiste has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. After the legendary Dr Rajkumar, Anant Nag has added another feather to the crown of Kannada,” Kumaraswamy said.
He also expressed hope that the veteran actor would continue contributing to Kannada cinema and Karnataka in the coming years.
Vijayendra said Anant Nag’s acting, versatility and decades-long contribution had left an indelible mark on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema.
“His acting, multi-faceted talent and contribution over several decades have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema. He has brought life to every character he portrayed,” Vijayendra said.
He termed the award a fitting recognition of Anant Nag’s distinguished contribution to cinema.
Ashoka also congratulated the actor, saying the honour was a proud moment for all Kannadigas. He highlighted Anant Nag’s ability to portray diverse characters through natural acting and extraordinary talent.
“Anant Nag is highly deserving of one of the country’s highest honours in cinema. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to him,” Ashoka said.
