New Delhi, Nov 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi’s festive-season business is expected to reach around Rs 80,000 crore, while the nationwide Diwali trade could touch Rs 5 lakh crore, according to the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI).

CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal said business activity in the national capital was gaining momentum after rallies and protests over the past month disrupted trading and caused estimated losses of around Rs 14,000 crore between October 1 and November 1.

He said markets across Delhi were now witnessing increased customer footfall, raising hopes of a strong Diwali shopping season and helping traders recover some of their losses.

The nationwide projection of Rs 5 lakh crore includes sales from festive shopping and associated services. Goyal said the estimates were prepared after consultations with representatives of various trade and industry associations, including those representing hotels, restaurants, malls, cinemas, automobiles, travel, salons and retail markets.

Citing a report by the automobile industry’s apex body, he pointed to a 55 per cent rise in retail vehicle sales across the country. Sales of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and tractors reportedly grew by 52 per cent, 110 per cent, 48 per cent, 70 per cent and 58 per cent, respectively.

Goyal also estimated that nearly five crore gifts, ranging from affordable products to premium items, were exchanged during the festive period.

The CTI said demand for Indian-made goods was a prominent feature of this year’s celebrations. Locally produced handicrafts, earthen lamps, idols, home decor, puja items, textiles, electronics, garments, footwear, cosmetics, kitchenware and gift products were among the categories expected to drive sales.

The traders’ body also attributed stronger interest in domestic products partly to GST reforms, saying they had helped improve the recognition of Indian goods.

In Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden, South Extension, Greater Kailash, Kamla Nagar and several other markets have reported increased shopper activity, Goyal said. Automobile showrooms were also witnessing significant sales, he added.
