Actor Deepak Tijori has spoken about the importance of making yoga, breathing exercises and physical well-being part of everyday life, describing the ancient practice as closely connected with Indian culture.
Speaking at the 5th National Yogasana Sports Championship 2026 in Mumbai, Tijori said yoga should not be treated as an occasional activity and emphasised the role of breathing in maintaining overall health.
“Yoga is very important for us Indians. It is in our blood,” Tijori said. He urged people to make yoga a regular routine rather than practising it only a few times a week.
Tijori also spoke about the relationship between yoga and breathing, saying maintaining proper breathing could contribute to the functioning of the body. He further referred to different forms of yoga, including hot yoga, Ashtanga yoga and Hatha yoga, and said they should be approached seriously and practised regularly.
“There are a lot of diseases that can be cured,” Tijori said while discussing the potential health benefits of yoga.
He added that consistent yoga practice could bring changes to a person’s health and personality, stressing that the practice should become part of daily life.
Actress and doctor Aditi Govitrikar, who was also present at the event, highlighted yoga’s impact on the body, breath and mind.
“Yoga works on the body, breath and mind – three levels. When young people take yogasana seriously as a sport, it is very encouraging,” she said.
The championship brought together personalities from sports, wellness and entertainment and sought to promote yogasana as a competitive sport while emphasising fitness, discipline, balance and healthy living.
Tijori, Govitrikar and actress Pooja Batra were among those present at the event.
