The quarterfinal line-up for the men’s cricket event at the Asian Games 2026 was confirmed on Saturday after the Malaysia-Oman Group B clash at Korogi Sports Park was washed out without a toss.
The match was abandoned after weather had also forced the cancellation of the Nepal-Japan Group A fixture earlier in the day at the same venue.
Following the washout, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Nepal and Afghanistan secured places in the quarterfinals.
Malaysia finished top of Group B with three points from two matches and a net run rate (NRR) of 2.950. Hong Kong, China finished second with two points from two games, recording one win and one loss, with an NRR of -0.075.
Oman ended third with an NRR of -2.050 after losing to Hong Kong, China. The washout against Malaysia ended their hopes of reaching the quarterfinals.
Hong Kong, China will face Pakistan in the first quarterfinal on Monday at 5:30 AM IST, while Malaysia will take on Bangladesh in the fourth quarterfinal on Tuesday at 10 AM IST.
In Group A, Nepal topped the table with three points after their match against Japan was washed out with Nepal on 149/4 in 15 overs. Afghanistan finished second with two points from two matches. Japan were eliminated after remaining winless.
Defending champions India will face Afghanistan in the second quarterfinal on Monday at 10 AM IST, while Nepal will meet Sri Lanka in the third quarterfinal on Tuesday at 5:30 AM IST.
The winners of the Pakistan-Hong Kong, China and Bangladesh-Malaysia quarterfinals will meet in the first semifinal, while the winners of India-Afghanistan and Sri Lanka-Nepal will face each other in the second semifinal.
Both semifinals are scheduled for October 1, followed by the medal matches on October 3.
