India added another athletics medal at the Asian Games 2026 as Prachi Choudhary won bronze in the women’s 400m, while Animesh Kujur advanced to the men’s 200m final on Saturday.
Prachi clocked 53.21 seconds to finish third in the 400m final, taking India’s overall medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Games to 30. Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser won gold in 49.20 seconds, setting a new Games record, while Iran’s Zahra Jaree Manojan claimed silver in 52.38 seconds.
India’s Kiran finished fifth in 53.41 seconds, narrowly missing out on a second medal in the event.
Prachi’s bronze took India’s tally to four gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals. India’s gold-medal-winning performances at the Games have included victories in both men’s and women’s kabaddi, women’s cricket and the 10m air pistol mixed team event in shooting.
In the men’s 200m, Kujur finished second in the third semifinal in 20.81 seconds to qualify for the final. Thailand’s Puripol Boonson won the semifinal in 20.10 seconds, setting another Games record.
Kujur, who missed out on the men’s 100m final, will now have an opportunity to compete for a medal in the 200m.
India also secured two places in the men’s 1500m final, with Gulveer Singh and Yoonus Shah finishing third in their respective heats. Gulveer clocked 3:45.79 in Heat 2, while Yoonus recorded 3:45.77 in Heat 1.
Both will compete in the 1500m final on Monday.
