A joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and the Border Security Force (BSF) has led to the arrest of two alleged drug smugglers and the recovery of 19.820 kg of heroin, which investigators said was delivered through a drone near the Indo-Pak border.
AIG ANTF Gurinderbir Singh said the operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding the delivery of a heroin consignment through a drone. Acting on the information, the teams laid a trap near Border Outpost (BOP) Pachharian and apprehended Baljinder Singh alias Rocky, 23, and Manjeet Singh alias Gagandeep, 20. Both accused are residents of Langeana village in the Sadar area.
According to the ANTF, the two were allegedly involved in the local supply and distribution network of a cross-border drug trafficking operation.
During the search, the joint team recovered 19.820 kg of heroin concealed inside a rubber tube measuring around four feet in length. The tube had been sealed at both ends with iron pipes approximately 2.5 mm thick, according to officials.
The consignment was allegedly airdropped by a drone before being collected by the two accused.
Sources said the drone, believed to be a large-sized unmanned aircraft, had travelled approximately four kilometres into Indian territory before dropping the consignment, which was subsequently picked up by the accused.
The ANTF said both accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with FIR No. 225, registered on September 25, 2026.
Further investigation is underway to establish the wider network allegedly involved in the cross-border trafficking and determine the source and intended distribution of the recovered narcotics.
