Kolkata, November 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Monday led the party’s ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ march in Kolkata, targeting former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

The procession began at College Street and concluded at Esplanade. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya also joined the march.

Addressing supporters, Nabin said, “West Bengal is already completely free from Mamata. Unable to cope with the shock of defeat in his own state, the former Chief Minister is now crying in Delhi. Now Delhi too needs to be freed from Rahul quickly.”

The march was organised as a counter to the INDIA bloc’s ‘Save the Vote, Save the Country’ programme at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, which demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Nabin accused Opposition parties of gathering in Delhi after electoral defeats in their respective states. He also targeted Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he was sympathetic towards forces behind unrest in Bangladesh and Nepal. Questioning Congress’s commitment to democracy, Nabin asked whether the party itself followed democratic principles or functioned according to the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nabin credited his leadership and welfare schemes with improving national security and lifting more than 25 crore poor people above the poverty line. He said the BJP had won the 2019 and 2024 elections on the strength of public trust and expressed confidence about 2029.

Suvendu Adhikari also attacked the Opposition over the SIR exercise, saying, “Whatever SIR means to the opposition, for us the real meaning of SIR is – remove the infiltrators, save India.”

Adhikari claimed that the BJP received 2.92 crore votes in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections and accused the Opposition of trying to create unrest in the state.
