Greater Noida, October 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Several customers of Punjab National Bank (PNB) have alleged that large sums of money were withdrawn from their accounts without authorisation at the bank’s Pi-1 branch in Greater Noida, prompting police complaints and raising concerns over suspected financial irregularities.
Customers claim that funds worth crores of rupees have allegedly disappeared from their accounts. They further alleged that after the discrepancies came to light, the bank replaced the entire branch staff and assured affected account holders that steps were being taken to resolve the matter.
One account holder, Sonu, claimed that nearly Rs 90 lakh was missing from his account. He said bank officials had offered an explanation for the discrepancy and assured him that the money would be restored.
Another customer, Rahul, alleged that approximately Rs 51 lakh had been withdrawn without authorisation from his mother’s account at the branch. He added that the account was not linked to a mobile number, preventing the family from receiving timely alerts about the transactions.
In another case, customer Sonu Sagar claimed that his father’s account, which previously held around Rs 88 lakh, showed a balance of only approximately Rs 1,290 in a recent account statement.
Sagar alleged that the suspected embezzlement had been taking place for several years rather than being a recent development. According to him, multiple withdrawals were recorded from his father’s account on June 6, 2025, including transactions of Rs 25 lakh, Rs 21 lakh, Rs 20 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, along with several other transactions.
Affected customers have lodged complaints with the police, seeking an investigation into the alleged unauthorised withdrawals and discrepancies in their accounts.
In one complaint, an account holder alleged that after discovering irregularities, he approached the bank but was asked to return after a day or two. When he visited the branch again, he claimed that senior officials were unavailable and normal banking operations had been disrupted.
The complainant further alleged that branch manager Nisha Tirkey informed customers on October 26 that the entire branch staff had been suspended.
Punjab National Bank has not yet issued an official statement on the allegations. The complaints are expected to be investigated by the authorities to establish what happened, determine the extent of the alleged financial irregularities and fix responsibility, if any.
The allegations have raised concerns among affected customers about the security of their deposits and the safeguards in place to detect and prevent unauthorised transactions.
