Varanasi, October 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A man allegedly posing as an Indian Army captain was apprehended during an Indian Air Force air show in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, after police found that his claim of serving as a military officer could not be verified, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place on October 24 near the helipad at Namo Ghat, where security arrangements were in place for Air Show-2026.

According to the police complaint, Sub-Inspector Chandan Kumar, deployed at the venue along with Head Constable Hriday Narayan Maurya and Constable Mehboob Alam, received information about a suspicious man moving around the helipad and claiming to be an Army officer.

The police team reached the spot and questioned the man, who identified himself as Captain Arpit Chaturvedi and claimed to be serving in the Indian Army. However, verification of his credentials and service details failed to establish any association with the force.

Police subsequently identified the accused as Arpit Chaturvedi, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district.

A case was registered at Adampur Police Station under Sections 204 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Section 204 deals with personating a public servant, while Section 318(4) concerns cheating that involves dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.

Officials said further investigation and legal proceedings were underway. The available information did not specify whether the accused had gained access to restricted areas or whether any security breach had occurred.
