PhonePe has reintroduced its firecracker insurance for the third consecutive year, offering medical coverage of up to Rs 25,000 for premiums starting at Rs 11 during the Diwali festive season.
Underwritten by Aditya Birla Health Insurance, the digital micro-insurance policy is designed to provide financial assistance in the event of firecracker-related mishaps. Users can purchase the cover directly through the PhonePe app.
The policy offers three key benefits: hospitalisation reimbursement of up to Rs 25,000 for inpatient stays exceeding 24 hours, day-care treatment expenses of up to Rs 25,000 for procedures such as burn treatment that do not require hospital admission for more than 24 hours, and a lump-sum accidental death benefit of Rs 25,000.

Hospitalisation and day-care benefits cover the primary policyholder, their spouse and up to two dependent children. The accidental death benefit, however, applies only to the primary policyholder.
PhonePe is offering two plans to accommodate different festive schedules. The 30-day plan costs Rs 21 and is available from October 15, with coverage valid for 30 days from the purchase date. The shorter 11-day plan costs Rs 11 and is scheduled to become available on November 5, with coverage valid for 11 days from purchase. The two variants are displayed separately, with only one active on the platform at a time.
The company said the policy can be purchased in under a minute through the app. Users need to open the Insurance section, select Firecracker Insurance, review the plan details and benefits, enter the policyholder’s information and complete the payment.
The offering aims to make short-term insurance more accessible during Diwali, when firecracker-related injuries can result in unexpected medical expenses. Buyers should review the policy terms and coverage conditions before purchasing.
