An Indian national was among two people killed in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday night, while two other Indian nationals were injured, the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia said on Thursday.
The Embassy said it was gathering further details and contacting the affected families.
“Saudi authorities have informed that one Indian national was among two people who unfortunately lost their lives in the attack on Dammam airport yesterday night and two Indian nationals were injured. We are ascertaining further details and contacting the affected families. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased and we wish speedy recovery of the injured,” the Embassy said in a post on X.
Earlier on Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed that two people had died in the attack targeting King Fahd International Airport on Wednesday. The deceased included one Indian resident and one Saudi citizen. Eight people were injured.
In a statement posted on X, the GACA said the fatalities had risen to two following confirmation of an additional death. The eight injured included one Saudi citizen, two Indian nationals, two Yemenis, two Bangladeshis and one Nepalese national.
The authority said the injuries ranged from minor to critical and that the injured were receiving necessary medical treatment at several hospitals.
The GACA said it was coordinating with relevant authorities to assess the damage, verify the safety of airport facilities and take necessary measures to protect passengers and personnel and safeguard the country’s civil aviation system.
It also confirmed that airport operations had resumed and air traffic had returned to normal.
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy had advised Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to exercise due caution amid the prevailing situation. It urged them to move immediately to the nearest safe place, such as inside a building or an interior room away from windows, in the event of an aerial attack.
The Embassy also cautioned Indian nationals against filming, publishing or sharing information, photographs or videos related to the ongoing events.
“The Indian Community in Saudi Arabia is advised to take due precautions under the prevailing situation. In case of an aerial attack, immediately proceed to the nearest safe place (inside a building or an interior room away from windows), and refrain from filming, publishing, or sharing any information, photos, or videos related to the ongoing events,” it said in its advisory on X.
The Embassy added that its officials were continuing to visit hospitals where Indian nationals were receiving treatment, remaining in contact with their families and providing necessary assistance.
