New Delhi, October 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

India’s agricultural exports have gained fresh momentum with a consignment of Sinduri pomegranates from Kullu in Himachal Pradesh reaching Dubai, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday.

The export of 1.3 metric tonnes of the fruit was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), connecting local produce with international markets.

“With the support of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), 1.3 metric tons of Sinduri pomegranate from Kullu has been exported to Dubai. This initiative to connect local produce with global markets is an important step toward increasing farmers’ income and taking Indian agricultural exports to new heights,” Goyal said.

Earlier this month, APEDA facilitated the dispatch of 24 metric tonnes of frozen food products from Sonipat in Haryana to Canada. The consignment, led by Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), included green peas, mixed vegetables, peas and carrots, sweet corn and samosas, among other products. The exporting unit received support under APEDA’s financial assistance scheme.

Goyal also highlighted the Centre’s efforts to expand the use of free trade agreements (FTAs) through outreach initiatives. A state-level workshop on leveraging FTAs was organised in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with more than 200 participants, including state government officials, Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and exporters.

The minister commended Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for encouraging greater participation by local businesses and exporters. He said these efforts would help businesses make wider use of FTAs and increase Gujarat’s contribution to India’s overall exports.

On Wednesday, Goyal said the multiple FTAs concluded by the government in recent years had created significant opportunities for Indian exporters. The Centre, he said, was focused on ensuring that the benefits reached farmers, workers, women, youth, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and small businesses, enabling them to take more Made in India products to international markets.

“To help them make the most of these opportunities, the Centre’s Department of Commerce is organising dedicated FTA outreach initiatives in collaboration with state governments,” the minister said.

Appreciating Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for participating in an outreach event in the coastal state and encouraging local businesses to explore new export markets, Goyal said similar initiatives would be organised across the country.

“More such initiatives will be organised across the country to help every state unlock its unique export potential, ensure greater utilisation of our FTAs and give fresh momentum to India’s export growth,” he said.
