New Delhi, October 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has accused opposition leaders and what he described as “anti-India” groups of attempting to incite young people and trigger violence in India, alleging that the unrest was part of a failed bid to force regime change.

In a post on X, Rijiju said political change in India could take place only through elections, rejecting what he portrayed as attempts to influence the country’s political system through external forces. He also invoked American billionaire George Soros, suggesting a foreign conspiracy behind the recent protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

“Regime change in India is absolutely possible — but only through elections, not through Soros,” Rijiju wrote.

Drawing comparisons with unrest in Bangladesh and France, the minister alleged that similar efforts had been planned in India to destabilise the government. He accused some opposition politicians and groups of colluding to mobilise young people and spread violence, while asserting that India’s political circumstances were different from those in the two countries.

Rijiju’s remarks came amid protests demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR process. Opposition parties have claimed that the revision has resulted in more than 13 crore people being left out of electoral rolls. The allegations have become a point of political confrontation between the ruling BJP and opposition parties.

Separately, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Saturday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and activist Prashant Bhushan, among others, accusing them of acting against the country’s interests.

Singh alleged that opposition parties, including the Congress and Shiv Sena, were part of what he called the “Tukde-Tukde gang”. He contrasted their actions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stated goal of building a developed India by 2047.

The remarks reflect the escalating political exchanges surrounding the SIR exercise, with ruling party leaders accusing the opposition of seeking to destabilise the government and opposition parties raising concerns about voter inclusion and the electoral process.
