The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced a statewide yatra covering all Assembly constituencies in Punjab, to be launched from Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo on November 10 under the leadership of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The yatra will be conducted in three phases. The first phase will run from November 10 to 22, while the second phase will be launched from Sri Anandpur Sahib and the third from Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Cheema announced the programme after a series of meetings with the party’s Scheduled Caste, Backward Class and Youth wings, presided over by Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Cheema said the party president had sought direct feedback from the various wings on issues to be incorporated into the party’s election manifesto, as well as suggestions for strengthening the organisation.
He said the feedback would be considered at the next meeting of the party’s election manifesto committee on October 24. The manifesto would be released on November 1, he added.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, Sukhbir Badal alleged that the arrest of Amardeep Grewal, the brother-in-law of Gurpreet Kaur Mann, the Chief Minister’s wife, would bring alleged corruption at the Chief Minister’s residence into public view.
“Be it Bhagwant Mann or his master Arvind Kejriwal, the central agencies are closing in on all of them. All of them will be booked and will face the consequences of their corrupt acts,” Badal claimed.
The SAD president also accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of being directly responsible for the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota. He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government’s ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign had failed to eliminate the drug menace and was instead resulting in the deaths of anti-drug activists and whistleblowers.
Badal further criticised the Chief Minister over reports of his seeking permission to travel to Paris, alleging that Mann was pursuing a foreign trip while Punjab was facing serious challenges.
“Bhagwant Mann should tell Punjabis why, despite his foreign trips, he has failed to get any foreign investment into the state,” Badal said.
He also alleged that Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann had prepared a plan to extort money from industrialists, claiming that they had divided them into two categories, with demands of Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore. These allegations were made by Badal and were not independently established in the statement.
The meetings also passed a resolution condemning the murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota and expressing the party’s commitment to seeking justice for the bereaved family.
The heads of the party’s respective wings—Gulzar Singh Ranike of the Scheduled Caste wing, Hira Singh Gabhriya of the Backward Class wing and Sarabjit Singh Jhinjher of the Youth wing—were also present at the meetings.
