Actress Neha Sharma has warned of legal action against anyone creating or circulating AI-generated images and videos using her face or likeness without her consent, declaring that fake accounts and artificial intelligence would not shield those responsible from accountability.
The Crook actress issued the warning in a post on her official X account on Saturday, demanding the immediate removal of any such content and urging people to refrain from creating or sharing similar material in the future.
“Anyone using my face or likeness to create AI-generated videos or images without my consent is hereby warned to STOP IMMEDIATELY,” Neha wrote.
Making her position clear, the actress said she had not authorised anyone to use her identity to generate AI content. She warned that using her likeness to misrepresent her or damage her reputation was unacceptable.
“Take down all such content already posted and refrain from creating, editing, or circulating any further AI-generated videos or images using my identity,” she said, reiterating that she did not consent to the unauthorised use of her face or likeness.
Neha also threatened legal action against everyone involved in creating, posting or circulating such material.
“Consider this a formal warning: I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST EVERY INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING, POSTING, OR CIRCULATING SUCH CONTENT,” she wrote.
The actress further cautioned that individuals should not assume that using fake accounts or AI-generated material would protect them from being held accountable. She ended her post with a demand for the immediate removal of the content.
Neha’s statement comes amid growing concerns within the film industry over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create manipulated images and videos of celebrities without their permission.
Several prominent actors, including Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Kartik Aaryan, Mrunal Thakur and Suniel Shetty, have approached courts in efforts to protect their identities, images and personality rights from unauthorised use.
More recently, a morphed video featuring actress Janhvi Kapoor in connection with the song ‘Chuttamalle’ from Devara surfaced on social media, renewing concerns about the potential misuse of AI and manipulated digital content.
Neha’s warning adds to the growing calls within the entertainment industry for stronger safeguards against the unauthorised use of celebrities’ identities in digitally altered images and videos.
