Choreographer Terence Lewis has described his performance at the 103-year-old Shri Dharmic Leela Committee’s Ramlila celebrations at Delhi’s Red Fort as a memorable experience, saying the audience’s response to the devotional song ‘Jagdambe Rani’ made the occasion particularly meaningful.
Lewis attended the event with singer-composer duo Amol–Abhishek, with the team sharing the stage with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The Chief Minister extended her best wishes to the team and wished success for their film, ‘Aaj Ka Mahishasur’.
In a statement, Lewis said performing before thousands of people and witnessing their connection with the devotional song had moved him deeply.
“There are some moments when you feel that what you are doing goes beyond a performance, and this was one of them,” he said, adding that the warmth and enthusiasm of the Delhi audience reminded him of the response to two earlier Navratri events in Gujarat.
Lewis said music during Navratri has a special ability to bring people together through devotion and shared faith. Performing ‘Jagdambe Rani’ before such a large gathering, he added, created a strong emotional connection.
“It is not just about singing or dancing; it is about being part of an emotion that so many people share,” he said.
The choreographer also described sharing the stage with Gupta as an added highlight. He said her presence, blessings and encouragement for ‘Aaj Ka Mahishasur’ motivated the cast and crew.
Lewis thanked the Shri Dharmic Leela Committee and the audience for their welcome, saying he hoped the song would continue to touch hearts and the film would receive similar warmth wherever it was presented.
Produced by Gaurang Bhaskar and directed by Dhiraj Kumarr, ‘Aaj Ka Mahishasur’ features Lewis, veteran actor Padmini Kolhapure, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Abhimanyu Singh, Neeraj Sood, Khushali Kumar, Himani Shivpuri and Chandan Roy.
‘Jagdambe Rani’ is composed by Amol–Abhishek, with lyrics by Abhishek Talented. The song features vocals by Dev Negi, Divya Kumar, Amol Shrivastava and Abhishek Talented.
