Pune, October 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Vishal Agarwal, father of Ketan Agarwal, who was allegedly murdered by his fiancée and her purported lover at Pune’s Lohagad Fort, on Saturday thanked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for appointing senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam as the Special Public Prosecutor in the case.

Vishal Agarwal said the Chief Minister had accepted his request for Nikam’s appointment and assured him that the case would be fast-tracked.

Nikam is known for his role as a special public prosecutor in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks trial, which resulted in the conviction and death sentence of Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab.

Speaking to IANS, Ketan’s father said the rural police commissionerate had provided him with strong support and handled the investigation well since his son’s alleged murder on June 18, 2026.

“Following the investigation, I submitted a request to the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, asking for the appointment of Ujjwal Nikam as a Special Public Prosecutor and for the case to be handled through a fast-track process. He immediately accepted both my requests,” Vishal Agarwal said.

He added that the charge sheet had subsequently been filed.

Expressing gratitude to Fadnavis, he said Nikam was appointed within two days of his request and reiterated that the Chief Minister had assured him of a fast-track trial.

Vishal Agarwal expressed confidence that Nikam would handle the case effectively and said he hoped the accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, would receive the death penalty. The allegations against the two will be subject to judicial proceedings.

The victim’s father also referred to recent judgments in two separate cases in Meerut, in which wives and their alleged lovers were convicted and sentenced to death.

While acknowledging that no punishment could compensate families for the loss of their sons, he said the efforts of the judges, police and public prosecutors had helped ensure that those convicted faced legal consequences.

He expressed hope that the judgments would help restore public confidence in the judicial system.

Vishal Agarwal further said he believed the death sentences would send a strong message against violent crimes and deter others from committing similar offences.

“I am fully confident that in the case of my son Ketan’s murder, the accused — Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary — will also be sentenced to death,” he said.
