Mumbai, October 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Bollywood actor Imran Khan has filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court seeking an urgent stay on a notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) directing him to leave India by October 28.

In his petition, Khan has argued that the FRRO failed to specify the alleged immigration violation and urged the court to direct the authority to produce the records on which it based its decision.

The petition also contends that the FRRO did not take into account his lifelong residency rights as an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder.

Khan has further submitted that he was given only 14 days to leave the country without a prior inquiry, a show-cause notice or an opportunity to present his side of the matter.

Challenging the circumstances surrounding the incident, the petition argues that the protest site was not a restricted area and that Khan did not breach any barricades. It also states that he was leaving the venue when he was suddenly surrounded by media personnel and subsequently detained.

The FRRO directed Khan to leave India by October 28 following his alleged participation in the recent protests at August Kranti Maidan, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In its order, the FRRO accused Khan of violating the Foreigners Act by participating in the protest. Although he is not an Indian citizen, he holds OCI status.

Earlier, on October 13, BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration authorities, urging them to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Khan.
