Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo has used a rally in New York City to voice strong opposition to Donald Trump, warning that any attempt to restrict voting in the upcoming US midterm elections would provoke a forceful response from him.
Speaking at the “Hands Off Our Vote” event on Sunday, Ruffalo said the November 3 midterm elections would have major implications for US politics and urged voters to remain alert to potential threats to the electoral process.
“This is a big, big deal, this election. There’s a lot hanging in the balance,” Ruffalo said. He added that he expected efforts to undermine the outcome even after the election, saying those opposing his position would “do everything in their power” to prevent the process from ending with a clear result.
Ruffalo also raised concerns about cybersecurity in elections and directly addressed Elon Musk while discussing potential vulnerabilities in the handling of votes.
“We need to be on guard for what we may not see coming, Elon. That’s the cybersecurity of these elections,” he said.
The actor said he had spoken with cybersecurity experts and was particularly concerned about the transfer of votes from polling stations to county headquarters and then to state authorities.
Ruffalo warned that vulnerabilities could arise during those stages, although he acknowledged that he was not himself a cybersecurity expert.
The “Hands Off Our Vote” rally was organised to mobilise voters ahead of the midterms and also featured appearances by actor Robert De Niro and comedian Mo Amer.
The November 3 elections could reshape the balance of power in Congress, with Democrats seeking to regain control of the legislature and influence the direction of the Trump administration’s agenda.
