Actress Parineeti Chopra has spoken about how personal tragedy can shape different aspects of an individual’s personality, saying that portraying such emotional complexity was among the most engaging parts of her role in the OTT series ‘Shaque: Trust No One’.
During a conversation with IANS in Mumbai, alongside co-stars Tahir Raj Bhasin and Soni Razdan, Parineeti discussed the challenges of bringing layered and emotionally intense characters to life.
“The best part is to play every layer convincingly, because such a tragedy in one’s life cannot lead to a singular personality,” she said, explaining that people may behave differently in social settings, at home and among friends, while experiencing a range of emotions internally.
The actress said she enjoyed exploring these different emotional responses and ensuring that audiences could understand the character’s actions, even during moments of extreme behaviour or vulnerability.
“She could be crazy and you still understand why she’s crazy. She could be crying and you should know why she’s crying,” Parineeti said, adding that maintaining emotional continuity throughout the performance was an aspect she particularly enjoyed.
The actress also spoke about how she separates her on-screen emotions from her personal life. She said hearing “Cut” on set helps her immediately move out of the character’s emotional state.
Parineeti recalled that people on set are often surprised by how quickly she can switch from crying or screaming during a scene to laughing once the director calls “Cut”. She said this happens naturally because she is fully immersed in the performance while acting.
‘Shaque: Trust No One’, which marks Parineeti’s OTT debut, is currently available to stream on Netflix.
