New Delhi, September 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Satish Salian, father of late Disha Salian, has issued a Rs 500 crore defamation notice to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh over statements he alleges were defamatory and sought to undermine his efforts to pursue a fresh investigation into his daughter’s death.

The notice seeks an unconditional public apology, retraction of the allegedly defamatory statements and Rs 500 crore in compensation. It gives the two leaders seven days to comply with the demands.

Disha Salian, 28, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Mumbai Police had treated the incident as an accidental death and registered an Accidental Death Report. Actor Sushant Singh Rajput died six days later.

Satish Salian subsequently approached the Bombay High Court seeking registration of an FIR and a fresh investigation. The Central Bureau of Investigation registered an FIR on September 14, 2026, following directions from the Bombay High Court. The FIR lists several individuals, including Aaditya Thackeray, among those whose roles are to be investigated. Being named in an FIR or being subject to investigation does not by itself establish criminal wrongdoing or guilt.

According to the legal notice, Thackeray allegedly questioned Salian’s motives and portrayed his pursuit of a fresh investigation as politically motivated and aimed at damaging Thackeray’s reputation. The notice also objects to an alleged representation that the CBI had previously investigated the matter and given Thackeray a “clean chit”.

The notice further refers to statements attributed to Deshmukh, including an alleged remark on March 23, 2025, describing the case as a “conspiracy to defame Aaditya Thackeray”. Salian’s notice alleges that such statements damaged his reputation by portraying him as a politically motivated litigant misusing the judicial process.

Salian has sought a written and public apology from both leaders, to be published and broadcast through major print, television and digital platforms. The notice also reportedly demands a video apology of at least three minutes on their official social media accounts.

Thackeray, meanwhile, has denied having any association with Disha Salian. In a post on X on Wednesday, he said he had never met or known her and described attempts to link him to the case as an “evidence-free” effort at character assassination. He called for the official re-investigation to proceed without what he described as political distractions.

The CBI investigation into the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian’s death is ongoing.
