British virtual band Gorillaz will perform in Guwahati on January 31, 2027, as part of the group’s first-ever tour of India, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday.
Taking to social media, Sarma said Guwahati would be among the host cities for the landmark India tour and expressed his excitement over welcoming the internationally acclaimed band and music fans travelling to Assam for the concert.
“Delighted to announce that the legendary Gorillaz will perform in Guwahati on January 31, 2027, as part of their first ever India tour,” Sarma said.
He added that Guwahati was “proud to be among the host cities” and looked forward to hosting both the band and fans from across the country.
The concert is expected to add to Assam’s growing entertainment and cultural profile and could also provide a boost to tourism, hospitality and other sectors in Guwahati as fans travel to the city for the performance.
Gorillaz, formed in the late 1990s, are known for combining alternative rock, hip-hop, electronic music and pop with animation and multimedia. The project was created by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett and is recognised for its fictional animated members and distinctive visual identity.
The Guwahati concert will be part of the band’s maiden India tour, giving Indian audiences an opportunity to experience its music and visual presentation live.
Sarma also tagged the official Gorillaz account while announcing the performance.
The announcement comes as Guwahati continues to attract major cultural and entertainment events, strengthening its position as a prominent destination in the Northeast. The January 31 concert is expected to generate significant interest among music enthusiasts in Assam and across India.
