Forest Workers Have Prominent Place in Punjab Govt’s Welfare Agenda: Lal Chand Kataruchak

Chandigarh, September 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Saturday said forest workers hold a prominent place in the state government’s welfare agenda and assured that no worker would be removed from service.

Addressing a meeting with representatives of the Democratic Janglat Mulazim Union, Punjab, the minister heard the union’s demands and assured them that genuine issues would be taken up at the appropriate level of the government.

On the union’s demand to include work undertaken by field workers in the high-risk category, Kataruchak said he would pursue the matter with the concerned authorities at the higher level.

The minister also assured the workers that the state government was committed to providing job security and that no worker would be ousted from service. He further said that continuing work would not be handed over on a contractual basis.

Kataruchak said the Punjab Government had regularised 1,458 workers in the Forest Department, including 516 this year and 942 in the previous year.

He added that the state government had provided more than 70,000 jobs so far, with appointments made on merit, which he said reflected its employee-friendly approach.

PCCF (HoFF) Dharminder Sharma, APCCF (Administration) Pratima Srivastava and APCCF (PUNCAMPA) Charchill Kumar were also present at the meeting.
