Twenty-two people linked to Telangana remain untraced following devastating floods in Nepal, with the state government coordinating efforts with central authorities and agencies to ascertain their safety, officials said on Thursday.
The Telangana government is monitoring the situation through the Helpline and Coordination Centre at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, in coordination with the helpline operating from the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad.
Since the helpline was activated, around 80 to 100 calls have been received from family members and others seeking information and assistance. Following preliminary scrutiny and verification, 20 cases involving 23 people have been identified for further action and coordination.
Of the 23 people, six are from Telangana, while 17 are Telangana-origin non-resident Indians (NRIs), according to an official release.
In a positive development, one person from Ranga Reddy district who had travelled for the Kailash–Manasarovar Yatra has been confirmed safe and has contacted his family. This leaves 22 people whose whereabouts are yet to be confirmed.
Several of those being traced were travelling in the Nepal-Tibet region, including people proceeding towards or returning from the Manasarovar Yatra. Their last known locations include areas around Rasuwa, Rasuwagadhi and Gyirong along the Nepal-Tibet border.
On the instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Telangana Bhavan officials are maintaining continuous coordination with the Telangana Secretariat, Ministry of External Affairs, Embassy of India and other concerned authorities to trace the missing persons, verify their safety and facilitate assistance.
The Resident Commissioner of Telangana Bhavan, New Delhi, is personally monitoring the situation and reviewing follow-up measures.
Information received from families, travel operators and official channels is being continuously verified, with actionable cases being taken up on priority with the concerned authorities, the release said.
The state government said it would continue monitoring the situation and facilitate necessary assistance based on verified information from the agencies concerned.
