Houthis Fire Three Ballistic Missiles at Yemen’s Marib City: Report

Sanaa, August 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Yemen’s Houthi group has reportedly fired three ballistic missiles at the government-held city of Marib in the oil-rich Marib province, escalating tensions amid a recent surge in attacks involving the group and Saudi Arabia.

State-run Saba TV, based in Marib, reported that the missiles were fired at residential areas of the city on Saturday evening. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Residents said they heard several powerful explosions across Marib around the reported time of the strikes. The Houthis had not issued an immediate statement confirming or denying the attack.

The group has stepped up missile and drone attacks in recent weeks against areas controlled by Yemen’s internationally recognised government as well as targets in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, a major supporter of the Yemeni government.

On July 20, the Houthis announced a ban on Saudi shipping and have since claimed attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea and energy infrastructure inside the kingdom.

Earlier on Saturday, the Houthis also alleged that Saudi forces had carried out artillery and missile strikes along Yemen’s northern border in Saada province.

Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported that Saudi artillery fire struck the Al-Dhaher district in Saada, a Houthi stronghold bordering Saudi Arabia. It separately reported heavy missile fire in the Bani Sayyah area of the Razih border district, allegedly damaging farmland. No casualties were immediately reported, and Saudi authorities had not commented.

The reported strikes came a day after the Houthis claimed responsibility for a drone attack on a facility belonging to Saudi state oil company Aramco in Najran, saying it was retaliation for an alleged Saudi airspace incursion over Saada.

Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict since the Houthis seized large parts of the north, including Sanaa, in late 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the Yemeni government.

A UN-brokered truce that began in April 2022 formally expired six months later, although a fragile de facto ceasefire largely held until the latest escalation.
