Punjab Police have busted an ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module and arrested a key operative with a hand grenade, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.
The operation was conducted jointly by Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, and SBS Nagar Police. An 86-P hand grenade was recovered from the arrested accused, who was allegedly operating on the directions of foreign-based handlers.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused allegedly procured the grenade from Adampur in Jalandhar district on the instructions of his overseas handlers, the DGP said.
A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station in Nawanshahr, SBS Nagar district, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the wider terror network, including its foreign-based handlers, local support structure and forward and backward linkages.
The development comes amid continued efforts by Punjab Police and central security agencies to dismantle cross-border networks involved in terrorism and narcotics smuggling.
In another operation, Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), recently busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling network and arrested two persons, Sukhwinder Singh and Manpreet Singh.
The accused were apprehended near Satirwala village in Fazilka on the basis of specific intelligence. Police recovered 30.200 kg of heroin from their possession and seized the motorcycle allegedly being used for transporting the contraband.
An FIR under Sections 21-C, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Fazilka.
Officials said further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation into the narcotics network progresses.
