Amid controversy surrounding allegations of theft and mismanagement of donations at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex in Ayodhya, an attendant has earned widespread appreciation after returning a diamond-studded gold chain worth around ₹20 lakh to its owner.
Dhruvesh Mishra, who reportedly works as an attendant at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, found the chain lying on the road leading towards Hanuman Garhi on Saturday.
Instead of keeping the valuable jewellery, Mishra took it to the PFC office and arranged for a public announcement to locate its owner. His efforts eventually helped identify the devotee who had lost the chain.
Nirmala Devi, a devotee from Muzaffarnagar and wife of late Mohan Kumar, came forward to claim the jewellery. The chain was handed over to her after the necessary verification and inquiries were completed in the presence of police personnel.
Overwhelmed after receiving the chain, Devi said its significance went far beyond its estimated monetary value. She said the jewellery had been gifted to her by her late husband, making it a deeply cherished personal possession.
Mishra’s gesture has drawn praise from locals and pilgrims, particularly at a time when questions have been raised over the handling and management of offerings and donations at the Ayodhya temple.
The incident has offered a contrasting narrative amid the ongoing controversy, with the attendant’s decision to ensure that the valuable item reached its rightful owner being hailed as an example of honesty and integrity.
