Supreme Court to Hold Special Lok Adalat on August 21-23 for Pending Cases

Batala, August 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Supreme Court of India will hold a Special Lok Adalat from August 21 to 23, 2026, to facilitate amicable and expeditious settlement of cases that have remained pending before the apex court for a considerable period.

District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Gurdaspur, Dilbag Singh Johal, said the initiative is aimed at reducing the backlog of cases and facilitating their resolution through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

He said cases eligible for settlement through mutual consent and conciliation would be taken up during the Special Lok Adalat. These may include matrimonial disputes, motor accident claim cases, service matters, land acquisition cases, consumer disputes and other civil matters that are legally permissible for settlement through Lok Adalat proceedings.

The DLSA, Gurdaspur, has received a list of cases related to Gurdaspur district and its subdivisions from the Supreme Court through the main office at SAS Nagar. Summons have been issued to both parties in the cases included in the list.

Pre-Lok Adalat proceedings are being organised by the DLSA, Gurdaspur, under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge Dilbag Singh Johal. The proceedings will provide the parties an opportunity to explore settlement before the matters are taken up for final disposal by the Supreme Court.

After both parties agree to a settlement, the DLSA will forward the report to the main office at SAS Nagar so that the cases can be placed before the Special Lok Adalat scheduled at the Supreme Court on August 21, 22 and 23.

The District Legal Services Authority has appealed to people whose cases are pending before the Supreme Court and are connected with Gurdaspur district to participate in the pre-Lok Adalat proceedings and make use of the opportunity for settlement.

Lok Adalats facilitate resolution of disputes through agreement between the parties. Such settlements can help save time and legal expenses while also promoting an amicable resolution between the parties.
