A 41-year-old Mumbai Police constable deployed for security outside actor Salman Khan’s residence died after suddenly falling ill and collapsing while on duty, a senior police official said on Saturday.
The constable, identified as Ganesh, was posted outside the Bollywood star’s residence as part of his state security detail. Police personnel at the spot rushed him to a nearby hospital after he collapsed, but doctors declared him brought dead.
According to the police, he died of a heart attack.
Security around Salman Khan has been strengthened amid threats allegedly linked to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who has publicly targeted the actor over his alleged involvement in the 1990s black buck hunting case.
In 2024, two motorcycle-borne assailants fired several rounds outside Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area. The subsequent investigation found that the shooting was allegedly carried out on instructions from Bishnoi and was intended to intimidate the actor.
Bishnoi came under wider national scrutiny following the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala and has repeatedly issued threats against Khan in connection with the black buck case.
Speaking to the media last year at a five-star hotel in Bandra, Khan acknowledged that travelling with extensive security could sometimes be difficult. He also said he was not afraid of the threats and had left his safety to God.
“Bhagwan, Allah sab unpar hai. Jitni umar likhi hai, utni likhi hai. Bas yahi hai,” the actor had said, adding that moving around with a large security detail could sometimes become a problem.
The latest incident occurred while the heightened security arrangements around the actor remained in place. Police have initiated the necessary proceedings following the constable’s death.
