Punjab Police Busts Dubai-Based Drug Cartel, Recovers 111 Kg Heroin: DGP Gaurav Yadav

Chandigarh/Amritsar, July 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Commissionerate Police Amritsar has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking and organised crime, recovering more than 111 kg heroin and registering over 1,100 NDPS cases since January this year.

As part of Punjab Police’s multi-pronged campaign against drugs, gangsters and criminal networks, Amritsar Police has arrested more than 2,000 accused in various operations, dismantled a cross-border drug cartel and strengthened surveillance across the border district.

Punjab Police Chief Gaurav Yadav said operations being conducted across the state have achieved significant success and added that Amritsar, being a border district, requires enhanced supervision and intelligence-based policing.

Under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, Commissionerate Police Amritsar registered 63 cases under the Arms Act and arrested 153 accused. Police recovered 209 pistols/mausers, two revolvers, eight rifles and guns, 221 magazines, 536 live cartridges and ₹3.80 lakh linked to hawala transactions.

Police also claimed to have busted a Dubai-based drug cartel involved in smuggling heroin into Punjab through drone deliveries across the International Border. The operation led to the recovery of 30.045 kg heroin and the arrest of six accused, including two juveniles.

Commissioner of Police Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the latest action followed last year’s crackdown on a Pakistan-Canada-linked international drug network, which resulted in the recovery of 60.302 kg heroin near the International Border in Barmer, Rajasthan, and the arrest of nine accused.

Under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, police registered 1,137 NDPS cases and arrested 1,898 accused. The recoveries included 111.559 kg heroin, 11.438 kg ice (methamphetamine), 9.246 kg opium, 2.245 kg charas, narcotic powder, poppy husk, intoxicant capsules and tablets.

Police also seized ₹61.12 lakh drug money and 38 vehicles allegedly used for drug trafficking. As part of rehabilitation efforts, 1,553 persons were admitted to de-addiction centres, while 2,443 were referred to Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centres.

To strengthen policing, Amritsar Police has deployed patrol vehicles, night checkpoints and technology-based systems, including artificial intelligence tools, vehicle databases, digital forensics and CCTV surveillance.

The Commissionerate Police also organised awareness programmes and community meetings to encourage public participation in the fight against drugs and crime.
