The minister said the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government was working to ensure timely financial assistance, dignity and security for vulnerable sections of society, including widows, destitute women, dependent children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Sharing the disbursement figures, Dr Baljit Kaur said ₹841.76 crore had been released to 9.45 lakh widows, destitute women and dependent children. Another ₹2,401.67 crore had been disbursed among 26.94 lakh senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

She said the schemes were an important part of the state’s social protection framework, helping eligible beneficiaries meet their needs and live with greater financial security.

“No family should feel abandoned in times of vulnerability. Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, our Government stands firmly beside every widow, senior citizen, person with disability and dependent child, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive timely financial assistance with dignity, transparency and respect,” the minister said.

Dr Baljit Kaur added that the government had earmarked ₹6,131.91 crore for various social security schemes in the 2026-27 financial year to maintain the continuity of welfare assistance.

She also directed officials to step up awareness campaigns, speed up the processing of applications and strengthen monitoring at the field level. The minister stressed that no eligible person should be left out of the schemes and that assistance must reach beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.

She said the government’s focus was on ensuring that funds allocated for social welfare translated into timely support, stronger social security and an improved quality of life for people across Punjab.
