Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday predicted that the Narendra Modi-led government would fall within six months, accusing the Centre of using police deployment and blockades to prevent protesters from reaching Delhi for the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Describing the protests as a “people’s rebellion”, Raut claimed that the government was nearing its end and that a national government would be established by March or April next year. His remarks came amid the detention of CJP founder Abhijit Dipke and other members at Delhi airport ahead of the planned protest at Jantar Mantar.
Speaking to reporters, Raut alleged that the Centre was afraid of young people and peaceful demonstrators and was using state machinery to suppress dissent.
“This government will not survive. Between March and April, the Modi government will take its last breath, and a national government will be established,” he claimed.
The opposition leader also reiterated his earlier remark that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s September 17 birthday would be his last as Prime Minister. “If Modi doesn’t remain, Amit Shah won’t remain either,” he added.
Raut used a reference to a famous dialogue associated with the late actor Nana Patekar to mock the government, arguing that even a “cockroach” could render those in power ineffective. He accused the country’s leadership of behaving like “traders” rather than statesmen, alleging that they were quick to panic in the face of public opposition.
Targeting the security arrangements in Delhi, Raut claimed that the capital had effectively been turned into Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that around 15,000 vehicles were stranded outside the city and train services had been halted to stop protesters from reaching the demonstration.
He compared the alleged restrictions to suppression during British rule and questioned the legal basis for branding protesters as anti-national.
“Not even during British rule were such massive blockades seen. Thousands of vehicles are stuck on all sides. By what law are you branding protesting youth as traitors and anti-nationals?” he asked.
Raut also appealed to Delhi Police personnel not to follow what he described as illegal orders from the Centre, accusing the government of electoral manipulation and misuse of state machinery.
