Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh led a massive late-night enforcement drive across the city, with around 1,500 police personnel inspecting 400 to 500 pubs, bars and other establishments to check violations of operating hours, underage drinking and licensing conditions.
The operation continued until 2 a.m. on Saturday and covered several locations across Bengaluru, including Brigade Road, Brigade Garden and Page 3 pub, as well as areas such as Anand Rao Circle and Koramangala.
The crackdown involved 19 IPS officers, including two Joint Commissioners, along with jurisdictional police teams and personnel from the Central Crime Branch (CCB). Police also established checkpoints on major roads and conducted checks for drunk driving and other alleged criminal activities.
Speaking to the media, Singh said the primary objective was to ensure that establishments followed prescribed closing times and prevented liquor from being served to minors. He said jurisdictional Deputy Commissioners of Police would examine the issues identified during the inspections.
“There is a deadline for pubs, and raids were conducted to check whether they are complying with it. Underage drinking should not be allowed. The jurisdictional Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) will look into these issues. We are on the field to ensure that the public is not inconvenienced,” he said.
Under the prescribed guidelines cited by the police, kitchens must close by 1 a.m., liquor service must stop, and customers must leave the premises. Officers inspected establishments to determine whether they continued operating beyond the permitted hours.
Special attention was also given to ladies’ pubs on Brigade Road. Police checked compliance with licence conditions, including whether minors were being allowed inside and whether liquor was being served to underage customers. Inspections also covered allegations of inappropriate acts during dance performances at certain venues.
During the drive, bars, clubs and restaurants were shut, and staff members asked customers to leave. Police are expected to examine the findings and initiate action against establishments found violating the rules.
